The awards started earlier this month when The Stable invited cider makers from across the country to enter their ciders in to the first round. These entries have been judged and shortlisted by cider experts from Crafty Nectar, Cider Box and The Stable. The eight shortlisted ciders are now on sale in all The Stable locations for approximately six months and, during this time, will be voted on by its customers. The public vote officially begins on 3rd May 2018.
Dan Heath, Founder of The Cider Box said, ‘I am thrilled to be a part of this exciting new awards from The Stable, and further excited to be supplying many of the shortlist to The Stable estate. Ahead of us this Summer, we have a hotly contested battle between some of the finest producers around right now, from innovators to heritage, craft to fun flavours, this really is the cream of the crop. Here’s to a long hot summer of cider drinking, and may the best pressed apples win!’

Ed Calvert and James Waddington from Crafty Nectar added “The Stable awards shortlist covers a broad range of cider styles from the traditional to ciders pushing the boundaries with innovative techniques. It’s a modern approach to a cider competition that is super exciting and inclusive. What’s also brilliant is that these products are not just being judged by cider experts that think they know best, but by the cider drinkers themselves. This approach means that industry snobbery can be removed allowing the taste to take over and be the defining factor. I can’t wait to see how it all pans out, good luck everyone.”

Gabe Cook, The Ciderologist and Stable Cider Ambassador said ‘It is both a challenging, and wonderfully unique, opportunity for such a divergent range of ciders to be judged by the great British public. It was no easy task to whittle down the entries to a shortlist of eight, but I am exceedingly happy with the line up. There is a cider here for every kind of drinker, with every kind of palette, for every occasion. Let the judging commence!’

Votes will be gathered and counted on 1 September, with the top five ciders going through to the final. The final round of judging will take place on Friday 14 at a yet to be disclosed location. The winning cider will then be The Stable’s Cider of the Month for October 2018 and will have a place on all of the restaurants’ Cider Experiences for a year.
Voting begins 3rd May.. we need you.
