the stable story
cider-loving pizza makers
Many moons ago, in the market town of Bridport, Dorset someone had the bright idea to renovate an old run-down stable tucked away off the High Street. It had spirit, it had soul and it was the perfect place to open a cider bar. They put a call out to all the local cider makers in the area, who arrived in droves with their weird and wonderful brews. The Stable was born.
To soften the effects [hiccup] of the cider, a pizza oven was unveiled and The Stable began serving up pizzas with a Dorset twist. They created a sourdough starter and Christened him ‘Jerry’ (after an old chef), and added it to their base dough. Topped with homemade tomato sauce (no shortcuts around here) and loaded with toppings sourced from amazing local producers, the divine combination of cider and pizza was a big hit with folk far and wide.
Such a big hit in fact, that now, ten years later The Stable has spread near and far; all the while staying true to its Dorset roots and never forgetting the importance of real, local goodness.
We are Dorset Mind; a pioneering local charity that has been supporting local people with mental health challenges since 1946. We educate, challenge mental health stigma and inequality, and promote recovery by empowering individuals to develop resilience. Our support groups, counselling and accredited befriending service help people regain social skills. We also deliver educational wellbeing programmes for schools and workplaces and provide volunteer opportunities across all areas of our organisation.
Proudly partnered for over two years, The Stable and MIND, the mental health charity, are making a difference in our community. We’ve paired with our local branch to ensure that the impact to projects and campaigns is felt by our immediate neighbours.
The Stable’s partnership with Dorset Mind has been a fundamental part of the bars’ identity since joining forces over three years ago. The real difference the charity makes in the local community is something that The Stable truly believes in. Stablehands have run marathons, organised craft fairs, made Christmas decorations, dressed up and given their time to events and drives. Customers are given an option to donate via the card payment system, with proceeds going to Dorset Mind and their projects.
